The Vinyl Reanimators are a group from Boston (Can't remember the 3 names) that released many remixes on vinyl throughout the mid 90s, and even contributed to the Scientifik album "Criminal" in 94. First time i heard these cats was when I was listening to My Remix of Itzsoweezee on Youtube and saw a Remix of "The Bizness" on the related links portion. Clicked it, listened to a mindblowing beat. I could never find the mp3 until today, and i found 11 others while I was here.

I don't know who this dude is. Sounds like he is on the come up. Regardless, madd people be telling me how dope this dude is on the beats. I took a listen, and....wow. You have to hear this. The eccentric use of samples and combination of new sounds and boom bap rhythm makes this a near timeless collection of work. In an interview recently, 2FR has claimed that "this is the result of about 2 years of trying to find my individual style of beatmaking. [I have] been copying dilla style here, Pete Rock here, Premo here, and I think I have finally come up with the new equation for music."

I LOVE THIS ALBUM. Although I have only heard Queen's first three albums, this is my favorite of the 3. Most of the tracks have that early 90s lowpass filter for a bassline thing going on, and usually production techniques that run throughout most of an album turn me away from it (which is why I can never listen to "Mecca & The Soul Brother" straight through, there's a sax on every track except "Lots of Lovin"). However, I don't care with this album.

My Favorite Albums Part Three

Just when you thought it was done, it's time for....

2FR's FAVORITE ALBUMS!

It's sort of funny when you think about the sound of this album. On the single from the last one, a member said "the days of the breaks are just about over." I think of this album as the end of the "breaks age" and I have a feeling that was the intent. Bringing that style of sampling to 1996, a year when it wasn't really used as often (I'm talking about drum breaks by the way) truly made it different from any other album that was out at the time. Shout out to Tim Latham for the mixdown. The group comes lyrically more in depth than they probably ever had, and maybe until this point, ever would've. These guys were just about 2nd from tribe as my favorite group until this came out...Now they get #2 behind the roots haha.

I mean, what is there that I have to say? The "Bad Boy" parody was spot on...and still a good song haha, and aside from that, the theme runs all the way through the album so subtlely unlike many other groups who sound like they're trying too hard. It's just an overlooked masterpiece.

DJ Jazzy Jeff - The Magnificent (2002) + One More Track

A lot of people went on about "Return of the Magnificent" without really giving this first LP a chance, or even worse, not knowing about it at all. It sounds much different from the "Return," mainly because Kev Brown produced 7 tracks (im not 100% sure, but knowing Kev's style, I'm gonna guess the bolded ones below are the ones he made) and others like ?uesto and Masters At Work get theirs in too. Jeff still gets his in every so often, using ever so familiar samples that make you reminisce on hip-hop earlier days rather than think you already heard this record before. Would I go as far as saying its better than the 2nd? ...Yes, I'll say it.

This album is an inredibly short journey through J Dilla's career...well, minus the Tribe stuff (and if it was in chronological order it wouldve been a little bit better). However that doesnt take away how nasty this album is. It's got a strange introduction though, but I have a feeling that was how it was intended to be.

My Favorite Albums Part Two

Back once again after a few minutes with...

2FR's FAVORITE ALBUMS!

The second album in the series would probably be at the bottom of the top 5 if listed in order. However, thats terribly high comparing to the other countless albums i have on this hard drive. As many times as this producer reframed hip hop beats in his earlier work, this to me was his shining moment in his career...Oh yea, them other two dudes were cool too.

Yea...this was almost obvious. But anyway, not much gets me happier than eccentricity that doesnt blow over my head, artistic value that is understood by the nigga and the master teacher (I Stay Woke). Slum Village's debut "Fantastic, Vol. 2" (Volume one wasnt released until 2005) does that just about perfectly. I could go on and on on the album's flawless production, but Dilla has enough people to do that for me. Yes, that takes away from the core of why I like this album, but hey...so?

'Tin n dem ( (c) Reunion on "Detroit Deli" ) also do a good job on the microphone. There is no need for them to go on lyrical escapades on serious situations going on when it was recorded in 1998. This is a party album for people who can't dance! It's all about the groove, and the trio understand and fully acknowledge that using an upfront style that wouldnt work on beats from "Illadelph Halflife." I mean, they did a song about threesomes, but any woman who understands the idea of this album wouldnt dare say its derogatory ('cause you know when it comes to rap, people throw that word around like a frisby) Props to these dudes for understanding that hip-hop is suppose to rock the house and your mind as well.

Welcome to a new series entitled....

2FR's FAVORITE ALBUMS!

This is a five part series on...my five favorite albums. Most of these are here because of the supersonic quality, it's frequency. It sounds like no other before or after, and if anyone tried to replay these frequencies, they will get the backhand. Here is the first album.

Madlib is a genius on his own. The Lootpack album "Soundpieces: Da Antidote" is insane, Madvillainy is a classic, and Champion Sound was intense. However, history has shown that drugs seem to intensify a genius' creativity. George Clinton and Funkadelic were tripping on acid when they recorded "Free Your Mind..." and Madlib, while being on a mushroom binge for a week, made the first album in this series.

Madlib's alter ego, "Quasimoto" was inspired by some funk record I can't remember...so whatever then. What matters is that "The Unseen," released in 2000, is a hard hitter in my opinion. This album is mostly characterized by its eccentric, bass heavy production and mostly down-to-earth fun lyrics. The whole album just flows together with tons of sampled jazz records. There are some crazy songs on here. "Basic Instinct," "Astro Black," "Boom Music," "Microphone Mathematics"...

Remixes to multiple songs that didnt exactly have bad beats to begin with. The D'angelo joint it one of my top 5 played songs on mediamonkey, so there's that. If you have the "Library of a Legend" collection, you have all the remixes except 2 busta rhymes remixes, "Woo Hah" (yes, Dilla did a 3rd remix) and "Abandon Ship" which for reasons unknown is cut short.

Da Youngsta's - Mad Props Remix (1994)

I was thinking about what other K-Def productions I had and "Mad Props" came to mind. Definetly one ill beat (although I do look at things technically, and its not as perfected as the Renown joint). Matter of fact, here is a video of Damu The Fudgemunk remaking Mad Props.

But ohhhhhh, i won't bring you that. Nah, too easy. I got the remix of said joint, which in my opinion is not only 20x better, but has better lyrics, and stands with the Pete Rock/Premo/Green Eyed Bandit style beats that were dominant in the 90s. I do not know if K-Def produced this one, but who cares? With lines like "I'm real, and nothing can change that. I've paid so many dues, that I'm bound to get change back" It's hot nonetheless.

World Renown - How Nice I Am (1995) Single

Shout out to K-Def, hooking these guys up with a serious gem for a beat. This is probably going to be one of my favorite tracks in hip hop. The rappers on here aren't the most lyrical. However, music is not who could spit the hardest on a certain beat, and this song holds much more artistic value than lyrical, which makes it held on a level much less understood. I don't need to tell you where the hook comes from, but just vibe with it. I also have the instrumental if anyone is looking for that.

Da Grassroots - Passage Through Time (1999)

Just as weed is the gateway drug is to other drugs, "Passage Through Time" should be the gateway album to other work by these artists and many others. Da Grassroots are a "genuine-vinyl" sounding production team from, if I'm correct, Toronto, so expect other Canadian rappers on this album.

If you download this from any other link aside from this one, you may get an incorrect tracklisting (by that i mean the songs are titled wrong). I'm not sure if the record label it to fault, if the songs were intentionally named wrong, someone on the internet f'd it up or whatever, but i do believe the listing i have is correct. This album is a definitely one of those "slept on" works of art, even after almost a decade, and it's a shame. My favorites are "Eternal," "Revival (Three Rhyme Superstars)" and "Drama."
